Luke Thomas Foster was born in Harrington Street, Nottingham in 1895 and was christened at Nottingham on 18th November 1895 and was the son of William a general dealer and Ada Foster nee Lawrence of 15 Keswick Street, Sneinton, Nottingham. His father William was born in 1870 at Normanton and his mother Ada Lawrence was born in 1872 at Hyson Green, they were married in 1895 at Nottingham, they had the 8 children, sadly two were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, William b1893, Luke Thomas b1895, Joseph b1899, Mary Ann b1900, Albert b1905 and Hannah Foster b1909, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family lived at 3 Taylor Street, Nottingham and were shown as William 41 yrs a general dealer marine stores, he is living with his wife Ada 39 yrs and their children, William 18 yrs a machinery manufacturer, Luke Thomas 16 yrs a labourer, Joseph 12 yrs a scholar, Mary Ann 11 yrs a scholar, Albert 6 yrs a scholar and Hannah 2 yrs.
He was a labourer in 1911.

Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Luke Thomas Foster served with the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he suffered from the effects of being gassed and was discharged from the Army on 8th April 1919 and died on 16th July 1919 as a result of drowning . He is buried at the Nottingham General Cemetery and his name is commemorated on the screen wall.
