Ernest Jenkinson

Ernest was born in Sheffield in 1881 and was the husband of Annie Jenkinson, of 51, Hardstaff Rd., Nottingham. In 1900 at the age of 19 years we find him in HMP Wakefield , where he is being held for desertion from the 1st battalion York and Lancaster Regiment committed at Pontefract on 17th March 1900, the record states he has no previous convictions . In the 1911 census the family are living at 51 Hardstaff Road, Ernest is shown as being 30 years of age and is employed as an engine driver in lace manufacturing, also at the address is his wife Annie 33 years and their two children Ernest 5 years and Mabel Gertrude 2 months of age, they state they have been married for 6 years

Driver Ernest Jenkinson, served with “B” Battery, 107th Brigade Royal Field Artillery, he died of pneumonia at the Nottingham Albert Hall, Military Hospital, Nottingham on 2nd December 1918. He is buried in Nottingham General Cemetery, where he is commemorated on the screen wall.

Sadly missed by his loving wife and children. “JENKINSON. – In loving memory of our dear son and brother, Dvr. Ernest Jenkinson, died December 2nd, 1918. Ever in our thoughts. – Loving mother and father and Willie (Manchester). “JENKINSON. – In loving memory of our dear brother, Dvr. Ernest Jenkinson, died of pneumonia December 2nd, 1918, at Albert Hall Military Hospital. Though death divides, fond memories cling. – From his loving sisters also sister Maria (Canada). “JENKINSON. – In loving memory of our dear brother Ernest, late Driver R.F.A. who died December 2nd, 1918.
