William Henry Masters was born in 1898 in Montacute, Somerset and was the son of Samuel a farm labourer and Mary Anna Masters née Swain of Sock Dennis, Somerset. His father was born in 1870 in Lopen, Somerset and his mother Mary Anna Swain was born in 1870 in Barrington, Somerset, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Yeovil Registration District, they went on to have 7 children , Mabel b1892 Odcomb, Somerset, Arthur b1895 Montacute, Somerset, William b1898 Montacute, Somerset, Harry b1893 Sock Dennis, Somerset, Ida b1907 Sock Dennis and Frederick b1909 Sock Dennis. In the 1911 census the family are living at Sock Dennis, Somerset and are shown as Samuel 41yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Mary 41 yrs and their children, Mabel 19 yrs a machinist, Arthur 16 yrs a farm labourer, William 13 yrs a farm labourer, Harry 8 yrs, Ida 4 yrs and Frederick 2 yrs.
He was a farm labourer in 1911.

Machine Gun Corps
Private William Henry Masters enlisted at South Petherton and initially served with the service number 1986 with the West Somerset Yeomanry, he later transferred to the Devon and Cornwall Light Infantry. He was serving with the Machine Gun Corps when he was brought to England and died whilst being treated at the Bagthorpe Hospital Nottingham on 12th February 1918 and was buried in the Nottingham General Cemetery.
Remembered on
