Clifford Henry Deavin

Clifford Henry Deavin was born in 1885 at Nottingham and was the son of Henry Samuel a travelling salesman and Bessie Maria Deavin née Rogers of 62 Cranmer Street, Nottingham. His father Henry Samuel was born in 1856 at Whittlesey, Cambridgeshire his mother Bessie Maria Rogers was born in 1856 at Islington, London. They were married on 1st May 1880 at the parish church at Thrapston, they went on to have the following children, Lilian Alice b1884, Jessie Marian b1885, Clifford Henry b1885, Florence May b1887, Sidney Warren b1888, Edith Helen b1897 and Nellie Mary Deavin b1900. In the 1911 census the family were living at 62 Cranmer Street Nottingham and were shown as Henry Samuel 55 yrs a former traveller in the tea trade, he is living with his wife Bessie Maria 55 yrs and their children, Lillian Alice 27 yrs mother helper, Jesse Marian assistant in the fine art trade, Clifford Henry a warehouseman, Florence May 24 yrs a private school teacher, Sidney Warren 23 yrs a warehouse man, Edith Helen 14 yrs a scholar and Nellie Mary 11 yrs a scholar.

In 1911 he was a warehouseman in the lace trade.

Private Clifford Henry Deavin enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 2nd battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action at St Jean, Belgium and is buried at White House Cemetery, St. Jean-les-Ypres Grave Reference: I B 2
