Joseph Morgan was born in Nottingham in 1882 he was the son of the late William Morgan a navvy and Anne Morgan née Lawley of 35 Caroline Street, Nottingham, William Morgan was born in 1833 at Market Drayton, Shropshire he died in 1908 aged 75 yrs and Anne Lawley was born in 1844 at Shrewsbury, Shropshire, they were married C1867 and went on to have 15 children, sadly 10 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census his widowed mother Anne Morgan is 68 yrs and is living at 35 Caroline Street, Nottingham she is living with her son Joseph 27 yrs a labourer and her daughter Fanny 25 yrs a lace hand.

Rifleman
18th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Joseph Morgan enlisted at Nottingham, initially serving with the service number 4456 in the Army Service Corps. Later transferring to the 18th battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he died of wounds on 3rd October 1918 and is buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery.
