William Perrin Burn was born in 1895 at Millom, Cumberland and was the son of James a grocer and Julia Burn née O'Neill of 60 Blue Bell Hill Road, St Ann's, Nottingham. His father James was born in 1870 at Millom and his mother Julia O'Neill was also born in 1870 at Wicklow Ireland, they were married in 1892 their marriage was registered in the Bootle registration district. They went on to have the following children, Helen b1893, William Perrin b1895, Mary b1897, Clare Gertrude b1899, James b1901, John Daniel b1903, Edward Aloysius b1905 all were born in Millom, their final child Francis was born in 1910 at Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 71 Holgate Road, Nottingham and were shown as James 40 yrs a manager grocer, he is living with his wife Julia 40 yrs and their children, Helen 18 yrs a machinist, William Perrin 16 yrs a grocers assistant, Mary 14 yrs a blouse finisher, Clare Gertrude 12 yrs a scholar, James 10 yrs a scholar, John Daniel 8 yrs a scholar, Edward Aloysius 6 yrs a scholar and Francis 1 year of age.
He was a grocers assistant in the 1911 census.

8th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman William Perrin Burn enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 8th battalion King's Royal Rifles Corps, he died of wounds on 2nd July 1916 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
His name is also commemorated on the Millom, Cumberland village war memorials.
