Percy Claude Gill

Father: Frank Gill, born in 1868 in Nottingham, worked as a lace warehouseman. Mother: Annie Eliza Gill, born in 1870 in Nottingham. Brothers:Arthur Edward, born in 1890, Harold Bertie, born in 1895, working as a provisions assistant and Frank Reginald, born in 1903. Sisters: Mabel Gertrude, born in 1892, working as a plain lace net mender, Elsie, born in 1894, working as a blouse maker and Gwendoline Mary, born in 1910. All the children were born in Nottingham The family lived at 7 Bateman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham, before moving to 86 Woodborough Road, Nottingham and finally 98 St Ann's Wel Road, Nottingham.

Gill served in Flanders and was caught up in the German offensive Operation Georgette, in April 1918. As the mass of German infantry surged forward the line bulged backwards, but eventually held. Gill was killed in action at the start of the offensive and his body was never found. However, his name was commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
