Rfn. Hilderbrando attested at Woolwich on December 12, 1915. He was mobilised on 01/03/1916, and embarked for France on 01/06/1916. He arrived in Le Havre on the same day. On 04/07/1916 he was awarded 7 days Field Punishment No. 1 and deprived of 14 days pay for entering a cafe whilst in possession of only a soldier's club pass. The battalion moved to the front line south of Bethune, but on 10/07/1916 he was hit, suffering a gunshot wound to the left lung and dying the same day. He was buried at Bois de Roulette British Cemetery, Aix Roulette
