William Henry Holmes was born in 1882 at Sneinton He married Annie Moore (born 30th December 1871 ) on 24th June 1912 at St Stephens Church, Sneinton, The family lived at 9 Norfolk Terrace Flewitt Street Nottingham before moving to 70 St Stephen's Road Sneinton, Nottingham. William's parents were living at 76 Lamcote Street Meadows Nottingham, at the time of their son's death. His widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings and 9 pence a week commencing 14th January 1918.
Holmes worked as a hosiery machine builder.

Holmes volunteered for service and following training he was drafted to France, arriving on 28/02/1915, attached 2nd Army Grenade School He was drowned whilst on active service on 26/06/1917. Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery Grave Reference: II D 6
