Father: John Powell, born in 1855 at Stone, Gloucestershire and working as a goods train inspector for Midland Railway. Mother: Hannah Powell, born in 1853 at Woolmer Green, Hertfordshire. Brothers:Herbert, born in 1878 and working as a relief railway porter and Arthur, born 1896. Sisters: Nelly, born in 1881 and working as a draper's assistant and Kate, born in 1882 and working as a dress maker. All the children were born in Nottingham. The family lived at 16 Mayfield Grove, Nottingham. Frank Powell was married to Daisy Powell and they lived at 31 Dale Street, Leicester before moving to 35 Midland Crescent, Meadows, Nottingham.
Frank Powell worked as a sewing machinist for a shoe company.

16th Bn Highland Light Infantry
Pte. Powell was called up for service and attested at Leicester. He served with the King's Own Scottish Borderers, No. 5822 before being posted to the Highland Light Infantry. Following training he was drafted to France. The battalion took over trenches in the Nieuport area in autumn 1917, and it was there that he was seriously wounded. He was taken to a casualty clearing station at Zuydcoote, where he died. He was buried at Zuydcoote Military Cemetery.
