Arthur was the fourth son of Alfred Henry and Fanny Storey (née Woodward). Alfred Henry Storey was born in 1873 in Skirbeck, Lincolnshire, the son of Charles and Emma Storey (née Briggs, m. 1871). The family was living in Boston in 1881 but then moved to Nottingham where Emma died in 1890. Fanny Woodward was born in Nottingham in 1872. Alfred and Fanny were married at Radford All Saints in September 1891 and had five children, one of whom died in infancy: Clara Emma b. 1892, William Alfred b. 1893 d. 1894, Alfred Henry b. 1895, Arthur birth registered 1898 (J/F/M) and Francis (Frank) b. 1907. Alfred, a seed merchant's assistant, his wife and their three children, Clara, Alfred and Arthur, were living at 40 Holden Street, Nottingham, in 1901. The family had moved to 39 Leen Side by 1911. Alfred snr. was now a grocer's assistant, Clara a hosiery hand, Alfred a plumber, Arthur was school age, and the youngest child, Frank, was four years old. The only daughter, Clara, married George White at St John the Baptist (Leenside) in 1912; both were living at 39 Leenside. The eldest son Alfred married Gertrude Scothern in 1915, also at St John Baptist. The youngest son, Frank, married Hilda Newton in 1930. Hilda's father had joined the army in December 1915 and served initially in the Lancashire Fusiliers but then transferred to the Labour Corps in 1917 (demobilized 1919). According to the later CWGC record, Arthur's parents were still living at 39 Leen Side after the war. His father died in 1929 and his mother in 1947.

Labour Corps. Pte. Storey volunteered for service on 11 January 1916, but was discharged as no longer fit for war service on 4 April 1918. He died on 18 July 1920 and was buried on 22 July at Nottingham General Cemetery, Nottingham (12198).
