Ewart Herbert Widdowson was born in 1898 in Nottingham and was the son of James a grocer and Emma Widdowson née Marshall, 19 Ford Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham. His father James was born in 1864 at Bobbersmill, his mother Emma Marshall was born in 1874 in Willoughby, Lincolnshire, they were married in 1894, their marriage was recorded in the Nottingham Registration District, they went on to have 4 children all of whom were born in Nottingham, Lewis James b1896, Hettie b1898, Ewart Herbert b1898 and Gladys b1901. In the 1911 census the family are living at 19 Ford Street, St Ann's Well Road, Nottingham and are shown as James a grocer and beer off owner, he is living with his wife Emma 37 yrs and their children Lewis James 15 yrs a scholar, Hettie 12 yrs aa scholar, Ewart 12 yrs a scholar and Gladys 10 yrs a scholar.

Private Ewart Herbert Widdowson enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 12/13th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers. He died on 28th March 1918 and is buried in Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension
