Cyril Henry Garton was the son of Harry Garton and Annie Augusta Watson who married at Nottingham in 1892. Their children included: George (b.1893), Cyril Henry (b.1895), Samuel (b.1898), Vincent (b.1900), Annie (b.1903), Tom (b.1906), John (b.1908). They lived at: 20 St Paul’s Street, Radford [C.1901]; 52 St Paul’s Street, Radford [C.1911]; Wharf Cottages, Wollaton Road, Radford [n.e.p.15.11.1917 & CWGC]. Harry Garton, who was employed as a carter at a local colliery, died aged 71, in 1934 when he was living at 124 Miall Street, Radford. His widow, Annie, died, aged 84, in 1950 when she was living at 14 Reydon Drive Whitemoor Estate, Nottingham.

Pte. Garton enlisted in Nottingham; killed in action; he was buried in the Tyne Cot Cemetery, West Vlaanderen, Belgium.
His brother, Lance Corporal George Garton of 2nd Bn. [The Prince Consort's Own] Rifle Brigade was killed on 1 February 1917.
