George Pedley was born in 1888 at Radford and was the son of Thomas a levers lace maker and Mary Ann Pedley née Cross of 80, Kimbolton Avenue, Lenton Sands, Nottingham. His father Thomas was born in 1856 at Wollaton, his mother Mary Ann Cross was born in 1862 at Bobbersmill, they were married in 1882 at Nottingham, they went on to have 4 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Louisa b1884, George b1888 and Florence Maggie b1899 all were born in Radford. In the 1911 census the family are living at 80 Kimbolton Avenue, Nottingham and are shown as Thomas 55 yrs a levers lace maker, he is living with his wife Mary Ann 49 yrs and their children, George 23 yrs a hosiery warehouseman and Florence Maggie 12 yrs a scholar.
In the 1911 census he is shown as a hosiery warehouse worker.

1/7th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private George Pedley enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was killed in action, 1st July 1916, aged 28, during the attack on the German positions at Gommecourt, France, on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France. Pier and Face 10 C 10 D and 11 A.
