John Bradley was born in Glasgow Barony in 1894. From reliable sources, it is known that his father was also named John of Clyde Street Glasgow and his wife is Helen Bradley (nee Connell) of 6 Drummond Street, Edinburgh. He is registered in the 1911 census as being in Army Barracks in Colchester as a Private, age 20, single, born in Glasgow, Barony. His regiment is the Scottish Rifles. He was married to Helen , they had a son John Henry Matthew Bradley in July 1916 and after his death she remarries James Weir Connell and has a son by him in 1927 at 6 Drummond Street, Edinburgh, also named James Weir Connell.

John Bradley was in the Scottish Rifles by 1911, stationed in Barracks in Colchester. As his Soldiers record has not survived, his post 1911 years are unknown until the end of the war when, according to his Soldiers Effects, he was in the Corps of Hus[sic] posted to Notts (SR) Yeo. He died on 15th Dec 1918 at a Mily Hpl [sic] at Canterbury. His widow was Helen. He was buried at Edinburgh (North Merchinston) Cemetery in a Commonwealth War Grave.
