Michael Lawrence Dewsbury was born on 25th May 1893 in Sutton Bonnington, known as Lawrence he was the son of James and Ellen Dewsbury of St Ann's Lane, Sutton Bonington, Loughborough. His father was born in 1868 in Sutton Bonnington and his mother Ellen Warren was born in 1868 in Hathern, Leicestershire, they were married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Loighborough Registration District, they had the following children William b1888 in Hathern, Henry b1889 Hathern, Arthur b1891 Sutton Bonnington, Annie b1892 Sutton Bonnington, Michael Lawrence b1894 Sutton Bonnigton, Jane b1895 Sutton Bonnington, George 1896 Sutton Bonnington, Mabel b1898 Sutton Bonnington, Richard b1900 Sutton Bonnington, Doris b1902 Sutton Bonnington, Frank b1904 Sutton Bonnington, Hilda b1907 Sutton Bonnington and Grace b1909 Sutton Bonnington In the 1911 census the family are living at Church Lane, Sutton Bonnington and are shown as James 43 yrs a clay worker, he is living with his wife Ellen 43 yrs and their children , William 23 yrs a farm labourer , Lawrence 17 yrs a plaster moulder, George 15 yrs a farm labourer, Richard 11 yrs a scholar, Doris 9 yrs a scholar, Frank 7 yrs, Hilda 4 yrs and Grace 2 yrs. Following the death of his mother Ellen in 1915 aged 47 yrs his father remarried and had 4 more children.

6th Bn Royal Munster Fusiliers
Private Michael Lawrence Dewsbury enlisted September 1914 at Hucknall and initially served with service number 13744 in the Royal Dorset Regiment . He later transferred to the 6th battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers.He landed in the Balkans theatre of war on 14th October 1915 and was killed in action on 27th December 1917 in Palestine, he is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery A 5,
3 of his brothers also enlisted ,but were discharged because of injuries
