Francis Henry Kirk lived at Furlong Villas, Furlong Street and was born 1889 in Mapperley and was the son of Frank a market gardener and Jemima Kirk née Parkinson of Furlong Street, Arnold. His father Frank was born in 1856 at Basford, his mother Jemima Parkinson was born in 1851 at Arnold, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have the following children, Mary Elizabeth b1879, Annie Rebecca b1887, Francis Henry b1890, Florence Gertrude b1893 and Thomas Parkinson b1893, all were born in Mapperley. In the 1911 Census the family are living at Furlong Street, Arnold and are shown as Frank 55 yrs a market gardener he is living with his wife Jemima 60 yrs and their children, Mary Elizabeth 32 yrs a laundry overlooker, Annie Rebecca 24 yrs an overlooker Francis Henry 21 yrs of age and is single, he is working as a clerk in a colliery office, Florence Gertrude 18 yrs an ironer and Thomas Parkinson 18 yrs a clerk.

Gunner Francis Henry Kirk attested into the Army on 6th November 1915 at Nottingham and he gave his age as 26 years and 4 months, stated he was a clerk and he was a Methodist, his next of kin was his father Frank Kirk at Furlong Street. He enlisted into the Royal Garrison Artillery with the service number of 68071. However he was discharged from the Army on 6th May 1916 suffering from TB, his discharge address being Furlong Villas, Furlong Street, Arnold. He saw no overseas service and he was issued with a Silver War Badge number 55645. It would appear after his discharge he went steadily downhill and did not return to work. He died on 13th February 1919 and was buried in the family grave in Redhill Cemetery. He is not recorded on the commonwealth war graves commission roll of honour.
He is buried in the family grave at Arnold Redhill Cemetery. Inscription on headstone: 'Also of Francis Henry, son of the above [Francis Kirk] at rest February 13th 1919 aged 29 years. Peace perfect peace'
