Walter was born in 1889 the son of Frank and Kate Lindsell (née Boardman). He was the brother of Rosetta, Harry Percy, Arthur Ernest, Frank Bertie, Hilda May, Ivy Kate Annie, Lawrence Cecil and Harold Frederick (killed in action 25/6/1917) Lindsell. In 1911 the family lived on Brookfield Road Arnold. Walter in 1911 was boarding with the Towle family at 42 Johnson Road Lenton Nottingham. He married Gladys Mary McQuire of 24 Burleigh Road Loughborough Leicestershire at Holy Trinity Church Lenton Nottingham on 16 December 1915. Gladys had worked for Boots for twelve years. Gladys returned to the Loughborough address after Walter's death. During their marriage they lived with in laws at 69 Lenton Boulevard Nottingham.
He was employed as a clerk.

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
He attested on 15th May 1915 at Nottingham into the 16th Battalion (Chatsworth Rifles) Sherwood Foresters. He was killed in action during an attack on the Schwaben Redoubt near Thievpal. Mill Road Cemetery Grave Reference: XVI B 8
Boots 'Comrades in Khaki', January 1916, 'By the Way' (photograph of Mrs W Lindsell): 'A war wedding of much interest to members of Boots was celebrated at Holy Trinity Church, Lenton, Nottingham, on December 16th, when Miss McQuire and Sergt. W Lindsell of the Sherwood Foresters, were united in matrimony. Miss McQuire, who has been associated with the firm of Boots for some 12 years, has won the highest esteem and popularity among her many friends and colleagues, who will one and all join to offer congratulations.'
