Person Details
John was born in 1880, the son of Mary Morris of Princes Street, Mansfield and the late John Morris. He married Sarah Ann Broomhead in 1903 and on the 1911 Census he and his family were living at Smith's Cottages, Princes Street Mansfield Nottinghamshire. They had three children: Gertrude Edna born 1904, Roy Ingram born 1906 and Kathleen Annie born 1908. The family eventually moved to Arnold and on his death was living at 7 Mansfield Road Daybrook Nottingham.
He was employed as a stationary engine driver

John enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters with number 17686 and served with H Company of 3rd Battalion. On 1st December 1915, he was posted to the 351st Company (Electrical and Mechanical Coy) Royal Engineers based at Chatham. He was killed in action in the Ypres Salient.
He is buried at the London Rifle Brigade Cemetery Belgium Grave Reference: IV A 20
