Albert was born at Harlaxton in Lincolnshire in 1892, he came to live with his sister and brother in law Frances and George Gilman of 7 Sherbrook Terrace, Sherbrook Road, Daybrook, Nottingham, In the 1911 Cencus he shown living with his relatives at this address he is single 19 years and a brewers clerk
He worked as a brewer's clerk at Home Brewery.

9th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
He enlisted into the Sherwood Foresters in late 1914/early 1915 and after training was posted to their 9th battalion, In July 1915 the battalion embarked at Liverpool for Mudros and they landed at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli, on the 7th August 1915. Albert was one of the casualties who were wounded when working in the area of Green Lane. He was taken back to the Regimental Aid Post where he received initial First Aid treatment but later died from his wounds.He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Turkey
Obituary published 3rd October 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- WARD. – Died of wounds at Gallipoli, October 3rd, 1915, Corporal A. E. Ward. Fondly remembered. – Brothers and sisters, sweetheart May.” In memoriam published 3rd October 1917 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “WARD. – In loving memory of Corporal A. E.
