George Kirk (junior) was born in 1895 at Whittington, Derbyshire and was the son of George Kirk (senior) a joiner and Ellen Kirk née Briddon of 94 Johnson Street, Sheepbridge, Whittington Moor, Chesterfield. His father George (senior) was born in 1859 at Bradford, his mother Ellen Briddon was born in 1866 at Elton, Derbyshire, they were married in 1891 their marriage was recorded in the Chesterfield registration district, they went on to have the following children, George b1895, Jane b1905, Mary b1906 and Agnes b1908 all were born at Whittington. In the 1911 census the family are living at 94 Johnson Street, Whittington Moor, Chesterfield and are shown as George 52 yrsa a joiner he is living with his wife Ellen 45 yrs and their children, George 16 yrs a labourer, Jane 6 yrs, Mary 5 yrs and Agnes 3 yrs of age. George Kirk (junior) lived on Main Road, Blidworth, Nottinghamshire
In the 1911 census he is shown as a labourer.

10th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private George Kirk enlisted at Chesterfield, Derbyshire and served with the 10th battalion Sherwood Foresters. He went to France on 14th July 1915 and was killed in action, 14th February 1916, during heavy German shellfire and the explosion of a German mine, prior to the German attack of the front line trenches, near the canal to the south-east of Ypres, Belgium. having no know grave his names is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
