Henry Smith was born in 1891 at Bow, London and was the son of the late Edwin a police constable and Elizabeth Smith née Wild of 12 Bath Road, Devizes His father Edwin was born in 1844 at Tachbrook, Warwickshire his mother Elizabeth Wild was born in 1850 at Coates, Wiltshire, they were married on 7th October 1868 at St Marys Church, Marleybone, Westminster. They went on to have 12 children, sadly 5 died in infancy or early childhood. Their children were Annie b1871, Edwin b1874, Elizabeth b1876, Sarah b1879 William b1880, all were born in London also Lucy b1886, Agnes b1888 and Henry b1891 all were born in Bow, London. In the 1911 census Henry's mother is living at 12 Bath Road, Devizes, she is shown as being 62 yrs of age a widow, living on private means, she is living on her own.

Private Henry Smith served with the 12th Field Ambulance Canadian Army Medical Corps. he was killed in action on 16th August 1918 and is buried at Villers-Brettonneux Military Cemetery, Somme, France.
Connection with Blidworth has not yet been established. Not yet confirmed this is the correct Henry Smith as only name is on the memorial.
