Christopher Wales was born in Beighton, Sheffield in 1894 the son of William a coal miner hewer and Esther Ann Wales née Feek of Manvers Street, Beighton. William was born in 1859 at Sheffield, Esther Ann Feek was born in 1869 at Whittington, Derbyshire, she died in 1906 aged 38 yrs, they were married in 1888 their marriage was recorded in the Rotherham registration district, they went on to have 9 children, sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family are living at Manvers Street, Beighton. Christopher is 17 yrs a coal miner filler. His pension record cards shows his next of kin as an aunt Jane Sharman living at 163 Middle Furlong Street, Nottingham.

16th Bn Royal Scots (Lothian Regiment)
Private Christopher Wales enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Sheffield, he served with the 16th battalion Royal Scots Regiment, landing in France on 11th May 1915 and was killed in action on 28th April 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
His brother Reuben Wales also died in the 'Great War' he served with the 7th battalion Seaforth Highlanders, he was killed in action on 25th September 1915 and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial.
