Silance Ethel Davis was born in 1893 at Nottingham and was the daughter of William a general dealer and Martha Annie Davis née Handbury of 34-36 Rick Street Nottingham (CWGC). Her father William was born in 1867 at Nottingham and her mother Martha Annie Handbury was born in 1867 at Belper. They were married in 1889 at Nottingham and went on to have 5 children, sadly one died in infancy or early childhood, their children were, Silance Ethel b1893, William Henry b1897, Dorothy Ellen b1899 and Constance Mary b1906, all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 34-36 Rick Street, Nottingham and are shown as William 44 yrs a general dealer, he is living with his wife Martha Annie 44 yrs and their children, Silance Ethel 18 yrs a drapers assistant, William Henry 14 yrs a lace warehouseman, Dorothy Ellen 12 yrs a scholar and Constance Mary 5 yrs.
In 1911 she was a draper's assistant.

Silance Ethel Davis served with the Queen Mary's Army Auxiliary Corps. She died on 25th September 1919 and is buried in Les Baraques Military Cemetery Sangatte Grave Reference: XIX A 6
