Everard Gilbert was born in 1887 the son of Everard Leivers Gilbert a brass finisher and Ellen Gilbert née Dale. Married in 1886 at Nottingham, they had three children Everard, Julia and Harry. Everard Leivers had previously been married to Julia Jennison in 1881 in Nottingham (born 1860 Nottm) and had a son John Jennison b.1882 Bulwell. However Julia died in 1885 in Basford aged 25 and their son John Jennison Gilbert died in 1902 aged 20. Everard married Beatrice Elizabeth Fowely (b.1890 Nottingham) in 1910 in Nottingham. In 1911 they lived at 32 Raglan Street Nottingham. Beatrice lived at 1 Colville Villas Sherwood Street Nottingham at the time of Everard’s death.
He was a lace dipper in 1911.

Everard Gilbert enlisted in Nottingham and died of wounds when a prisoner of war at Limburg. He is buried in Denain Communal Cemetery, Grave Reference B55.
Obituary published in the Nottingham Evening Post dated 28th March 1919 :- GILBERT. – In loving memory of my dear husband, Everard Gilbert, 7th Sherwood Foresters, died of wounds, March 28th, 1918. A noble sacrifice. – From loving wife and child.”
