Father: Thomas Allsopp, born in 1860 at Birmingham, working as a labourer. Mother: Priscilla Allsopp, born in France. Brother: Thomas, born in 1882, working as a brick maker. Sister: Mabel. born in 1887 and Priscilla, died in 1903. The family lived at 40 Prince Regent Street, Carlton Road, Nottingham. Thomas Allen remarried Mary Ann Allsopp. Step brothers: James Arthur, born in 1908 in Nottingham and Harry Edwin, born in 1910 in Nottingham. Step sisters: Lizzie Butler, born in 1891, working as a picture framer, May Butler, born in 1893 in Nottingham, also working as a picture framer. In 1911 they lived at 54 Kirkwhite Street, Meadows, Nottingham.
In 1911 he was an errand boy.

1st Bn King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Pte Allsopp was called up for service and following training was drafted to France. In 1915 the battalion was involved in fighting during the Second Battle of Ypres, where he was killed on 20/04/1915. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 8 May 1915: 'Allsopp. Killed in action France, April 30th (sic), Private Herbert (Paddy) Allsopp of the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, son of Thomas and Mary Allsopp, 17 Hartford Street, aged 19 years.' In memoriam published 20th April 1916 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “ALLSOPP. – In loving memory of Private Herbert (Paddy) Allsopp, K.O.Y.L.I., killed in action April 20th, 1915, aged 19.
