Father: Evans Barkworth, born in 1840 in Lincolnshire, working as a baker. Mother: Esther Barkworth, born in 1858 at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, working as a lace clipper. The family lived at 4 Albion Square, Greyfriars, Nottingham. Frederick Barkworth later moved to live with his uncle, George Morris at 18 Agnes Street, Arkwright Street, Nottingham. A sister, Minnie, placed a notice of her brother's death in a Nottingham paper and gave his address as 54 Neville Street, Meadows.
Frederick Warkworth worked as foundry labourer.

16th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Pte. Barkworth was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France. The battalion was in reserve in the front line in the Beaucourt sector during the continuing Battle of the Somme. They provided carrying parties during the attack on 03/09/1916 and suffered 101 casualties including Pte. Barkworth who was killed in action. He was buried at Knightsbridge Cemetery, Mesnil-Martinsart (grave ref. F.11).
Nottingham Post notice (abridged), 23 September 1916: 'Barkworth. Killed in action September 3rd 1914, Private F Barkworth, Sherwood Foresters, of 54 Neville Street, Meadows. Sister, Minnie.'
