He was the son of Robert (a farmer) and Emily Elliott and the brother of Arthur, Annie, John Henry and Walter Elliott. They lived at Nursery Farm West Hallam, Derbyshire. Robert’s father died in spring 1905 and his mother moved to Kimberley. She married Enoch Talbot in the autumn of 1909.
Robert attended Scargill Boys school West Hallam. On leaving school, he worked for Richard Morris as a cowhand at Grange Farm, Cock Orchard, West Hallam.

He served with 4th North Midland Bde and may have been a Territorial. Robert is named on the West Hallam village war memorial located near St. Wilfrid's church gates.
No Medal Card exists for this man so he saw no overseas service. He died in Kimberley 28/2/1915 of TB (death certificate obtained from GRO) and is registered as 'farm labourer' which identifies him as the 'cowman' working on a West Hallam farm in 1911 and the son of a farmer. Robert Elliott has a CWGC headstone in Kimberley Cemetery Grave Reference: C5410.
