Arthur Farnsworth was born in 1897 at Ilkeston and was the son of Walter Edmund a stableman and Harriet Farnsworth née Newton of 13 Thurman Street, Hyson Green, Nottingham. His father Walter Edmund was born in 1865 at Shipley, his mother Harriett Newton was born in 1865 at Eastwood, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 7 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were John Cameron b1886 Ilkeston, Edith b1889 Ilkeston, Polly b1892 Ilkeston, Arthur b1897 Ilkeston, and Maud Farnsworth b1901 Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family lived at 13 Thurman Street Hyson Green Nottingham and were shown as Walter Farnsworth 46 yrs a stableman, he is living with his wife Harriett 46 yrs and their children, Edith 22 yrs a cigar hand at John Players, Polly 19 yrs a frilling hand, Arthur 14 yrs a general hand at John Players and Maud 10 yrs a scholar. .
He was a general hand at Player's factory in 1911.

South Nottinghamshire Hussars
Private Arthur Farnsworth enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the South Notts Hussars and was attached to the Queens Own Oxford Hussars. He was killed in action on 21st June 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial Pier and face 1A
