Thomas Wilkinson was born in 1879 at Syerston and was the son of Charles a labourer and Mary Wilkinson née Carter of Syerston. His father was born in 1841 at Claypole he died in 1916 and his mother Mary Carter was born in 1851 at Syerston, they were married on 27th June 1872 at Syerston and went on to have the following children, Annie b1872, George b1875, William b1876, Thomas b1879, Elizabeth b1882, Emma b1883 and Alice b1886 all were born in Syerston. Thomas married his wife May Ethel Thompson in 1909 at Chelsea, they lived at 9 Lorna Road, Hove, Sussex, they had a son Godfrey Bernard born 1910 at Woburn. In the 1911 census the family are living at 55 Speedwell, Woburn, Bedfordshire and are shown as Thomas Wilkinson 31 yrs a domestic gardener, he is living with his wife May Ethel 31 yrs and their son Godfrey Bernard 1 year of age. In the same census his parents are living at Syerston village and are shown as Charles 70 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Mary 56 yrs and their children, George 32 yrs a domestic gardener and William 30 yrs a farm labourer.
In the 1911 census he is a domestic gardener.

2nd Bn Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment)
Private Thomas Wilkinson enlisted at Luton whilst residing at Woburn he initially served with the service number 290945 in the Royal Sussex Regiment. He was serving with the 2nd battalion Royal Fusiliers when he was killed in action on 9th October 1917, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium.
