He was the son of George Arthur and Phoebe Potter and the brother of Florrie, Bertha, Mary, Francis, John, Samuel, Arthur and Nellie Potter. In 1901 they lived at 2 Atlas Terrace Kirk White Street Meadows Nottingham.

Wiltshire Regiment (Duke of Edinburgh's)
Pte. George William Potter, enlisted in Nottingham, he initially served with service number 20070 in the Hussars of the Line Regiment , later transferring to the 1/4th Battalion Wiltshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 17th November 1917 in Egypt . He is buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.
In memoriam published 17th November 1919 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “POTTER. – In ever-loving memory of Pte. George Potter, who died of wounds in Palestine, November 17th, 1917. It's only those who have loved and lost that understand war's bitter cost. Sadly missed. Fiancée Ada, Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds and family. “POTTER. – In loving memory of our dear brother, who died of wounds November 17th.
