Arthur Knighton was born in 1898 in Eastwood and was the son of Reuben Knighton an English and Foreign Fruiter and Emily Knighton née Rockley of Nottingham Road Eastwood. Both his father Rueben and his mother Emily Rockley were born in 1875 at Eastwood and were married in 1897, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District, they went on to have three children all of whom were born in Eastwood, they were Arthur 1898, Frederick Sear b1900 and Wilfred b1906. In the 1911 census the family are living at Nottingham Road, Eastwood and are shown as Rueben 36 yrs an English and foreign fruiter, he is living with his wife Emily 36 yrs and their children Arthur 13 yrs, Frederick Sear 11 yrs and Wilfred 5 yrs.
He was an active Wesleyan and a talented amateur violinist.

South Lancashire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Volunteers)
Private Arthur Knighton, enlisted at Hucknall and initially served with the remounts section before transferring to the 2/4th Battalion South Lancashire Regiment. He died of wounds to the abdomen and thigh in a Casualty Clearing Station on 28th September 1918 and is buried in Grevillers British Cemetery.
