Joseph Christian was born in 1892 and was the son of Joseph (senior) a hawker and general dealer and Catherine Christian née Hatton of 110 Nottingham Road Eastwood Nottinghamshire. His father Joseph (senior) was born in 1867 in Lincolnshire and his mother Catherine Hatton was born in 1866 at Giltbrook, they were married in 1889, their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration District. They went on to have 9 children, sadly three were to die in infancy or early childhood, their surviving children were, Enoch b1891, Joseph b1892, Arthur b1895,Catherine b1897, Mary b1903 and Frank b1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at Giltbrook and are shown as Joseph 44 yrs a hawker and general dealer, he is living wit his wofe Catherine 45 yrs and their children, Enoch 20 yrs a cola miner - hewer, Joseph 18 yrs a coal miner - loader, Arthur 16 yrs a coal miner - gang lad, Catherine 14 yrs a leather worker, Mary 8 yrs and Frank 3 yrs
In the 1911 census he is a coal miner - loader.

13th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Joseph Christian enlisted at Nottingham early in the war and served in France for over a year. He died of wounds in both legs, the left arm and right hand at the 45th Casualty Clearing Station, France. He is buried at Daours Communal Cemetery Extension, Daours, Somme, France .
