He was the son of Samuel and Sarah Berry of 18 Forest Street Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. He was the brother of George (killed in action 25/10/1916), Elizabeth, Mabel, Thomas, Elsie, William, Florence, May and Peter Berry.
He was a colliery banks man below ground.
