William Abraham Brough was born on 4th April 1895 at Brampton and was the son of Mary Brough, he was baptised on 23rd April 1895 at St Thomas Church Brampton, (his baptism record shows his mother is Mary Brough a single woman.) CWGC shows He was the brother of Mrs J Lilley of 60 Station Road Langley Mill Derbyshire. However his pension record card shows his next of kin as Jane Lilley of 60 Station Road, Langley Mill as his foster mother/grandmother. In the 1911 census William Abraham is living with his grandparents at 60 Station Road, Langley Mill and are shown as Abraham Lilley 60 yrs a coal miner camp cleaner, he is living with his wife Jane Lilley 60 yrs and their son John Frederick Lilley 28 yrs a coal miner, also living with them are 3 grandchildren, William Abraham Lilley 15 yrs a coal miner below ground shown as grandson, Jane Lilley 10 yrs a grand daughter and Elsie May Lilley 8 yrs a grand daughter.

Private William Abraham Brough enlisted at Ilkeston and served with the 2/4th battalion South Lancashire Regiment. He was killed in action on 28th August 1918 and is buried at St Martin Calvaire British Cemetery, St Martin-Sur-Cojeul, France.
