Abel Gibson was born in 1895 at Eastwood and was the only son of Arthur a coal miner and Priscilla Gibson née Holmes of 13 Adwick Lane Adwick-le- Street Doncaster.. His father Arthur was born in 1876 at Eastwood, his mother Priscilla Holmes was born in 1873 at Heanor, they were married in 1894 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had the following children all born in Eastwood, Abel b1895, Clara b1900, May b1905 and Annie born 1910. In the 1911 census the family was living at 13 Adwick Lane, Adwick Le Street, Doncaster and were shown as Arthur 35yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Priscilla 38 yrs and their children, Abel 16 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Clara 11 yrs a scholar, May 6 yrs and Annie 1 year old.
He was a coal miner pony driver in the 1911 census.

8th Bn King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Private Abel Gibson enlisted at Doncaster and served with 8th Battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He was killed in action on 20th September 1916 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
Remembered on
