Harry Moreland Amos was born in 1886 the son of Cornelius a publican and farmer and Dorothy Ann Amos née Rigley of Ash Tree House, Nuncargate, Kirkby in Ashfield. Cornelius was born in 1851 at Kirkby, Dorothy Ann Rigley was born in 1863 also at Kirkby, married in 1883 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have 11 children. In 1911 the family lived at Dunston Ferry, Southrey, Lincolnshire, Cornelius was a publican and farmer and Harry 24 yrs was the ferryman. He later became the inn keeper at Whitehorse Inn, Southrey, Lincolnshire

Gunner Harry Moreland Amos attested on 15th February 1916 at Lincoln, giving his age as 29 yrs and 238 days, he was an Inn keeper. his next of kin was his mother Dorothy Ann Amos of Ashtree House, Nuncargate, he was posted to the reserves. He was mobilised on 28th March 1916 and posted as a gunner with the Royal Garrison Artillery. Embarking from Devonport on 10th December 1916 he disembarked on 9th January 1917 at Alexandria, arriving at Salonika on 15th January 1917 where he joined the 190th Heavy Battery. Admitted to the 43rd General Hospital on 20th June 1916 with malaria where he died on the 30th June 1916 . Buried at Mikra British Cemetery, Kalamaria, Greece.
