Richard Allison was born on 7th November 1885 at Lowdham and was baptised on 25th December 1885 at St Marys Church, Lowdham, he was the son of George and Hannah Allison nee Foster of Gunthorpe, Notts His father Richard was born in 1850 at Darlton and his mother Hannah Foster was born in 1854 at Gunthorpe, they were married on 6th June 1876 at St Marys Church, Lowdham they went on to have 10 children, Emily b1877, Thomas 1878 ,Edith b1881, Elizabeth 1883, Richard b1885, Lucy b1888, George b1890,Frederick b1893 and Ada Mary b1896, all were born in Gunthorpe. Richard married Elizabeth Utley (b1887 Barnsley) on 4th March 1907 at St Georges Church, Barnsley they lived at 12,Blenheim Avenue, Barnsley, they went on to have a son Clifford b13th November 1911 in Sheffield. In the 1911 census Richard and his wife are living at 25 Harrington Road, Barnsley and are shown as Richard 25 yrs a wholesale market porter, he is living with his wife Eliza 24 yrs and his two sisters Emily Jones 34 yrs and Elizabeth Crooks 28 yrs. In the same 1911 census his parents are living at Gunthorpe village and are shown as George 61 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Hannah 57 yrs and their children Frederick 18 yrs a farm labourer and Ada Mary 15 yrs a scholar.

52nd Coy Machine Gun Corps (Infantry)
Private Richard Allison enlisted at Sheffield and served with the 52nd Machine Gun Company. He was killed in action on 19th September 1918 and is buried at Queant Road Cemetery grave reference 7.G.1
