He was a colliery labourer.

He was a stretcher bearer. He signed up on 25th August 1915 in Sutton in Ashfield.
He was killed in France/Flanders by friendly shell fire whilst in his trench (a British shell fell short). Burial place not known but commemorated on the Tyne Cot memorial in Belgium.
