George was born in 1886 in Hucknall the son of Arthur Allen, of 6 Linby Terrace, George St, Hucknall, Nottingham, and he was married to Alice Allen, of 14 Morris Terrace, Morris Street, Daybrook, Nottingham. In his service record on an army form W5080 dated 14th July 1919 his wife Alice gives details of their 3 children William born 25th December 1909, Arthur born 5th September 1911 and John George born 4th November 1915 (a fourth child Albert died on the 29th September 1915 aged 18 months.) at this time the family were living at Salop Street, Daybrook.

He enlisted on 23rd March 1915 at Hucknall . At his time of enlistment he states that he is 29 years and 160 days old and his occupation is that of a carter and that he lives at 13 Drayton Yard, Front Street, Arnold he enlisted into the Kings Royal Rifle Corps and after training near Winchester he was sent out with the 9th Battalion to France. On the 24th September the 9th Battalion the Kings Royal Rifle Corps moved out of a rest area near Poperinghe, Belgium and advanced to positions from which they would take part in an attack on the German Positions at Bellewarde Farm, which attack was a part of the general attack of the Allied Armies. He was killed in action during this attack. he has no known grave, His name is commemorated on the Menin Gate memorial, Ypres, Belgium
