Thomas Henry Ashby was born in 1892 in Radford and was the son of Henry a commission agent and Adelaide Ashby née Henson of 308 Mansfield Road, Nottingham. His father Henry was born in 1864 in Aylesbury and his mother Adelaide Henson was born in 1868 in Nottingham, they were married in 1891 in Nottingham and had a further son Leslie John born 1894 also in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 308 Mansfield Road, Nottingham and are shown as Henry 47 yrs a commission agent, he is living with his wife Adelaide 43 yrs and their teo sons Thomas Henry 19 yrs a warehouseman and Leslie John 17 yrs an architect, also living at the address is Emma Selina Morley 18 yrs a domestic servant.
In the 1911 census he is shown as a warehouseman.

9th Bn King's Royal Rifle Corps
Rifleman Thomas Henry Ashby, enlisted at Nottingham and served with the 9th Battalion King's Royal Rifle Corps, he died of wounds on 17th July 1915. He is buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery
