Person Details
Nottingham
Frederick was the son of Charlotte Gibson Atkinson. He was born in 1886 and baptised at Nottingham St Thomas on 2 January 1887. The baptismal record gave his mother's address as 10 Regent Street, Nottingham, in the parish of St Thomas. His mother married John Tacey of Barton in Fabis at the parish church of St George on 6 October 1890, and they had two children, Sarah Ann b. 1891 (reg. J/F/M) and Arthur b. abt. 1894. Frederick lived with his mother and stepfather in Barton in Fabis until he moved to Widmerpool where he was recorded on the 1911 Census working as a cattle man for John Burnett, a farmer. Frederick married Nellie Marriott (b. 1891) in 1912 and they had one child, John Gibson (b. 1914) The couple lived in Willoughby on the Wolds, which was also Nellie's address on the later CWGC record. She was still living in the village with their son John in 1939 when the England & Wales Register was compiled. Nellie died in 1976. During the time Frederick lived in Barton in Fabis his stepfather's nephew, William Adams, lived with the family as he had done since a child. William's brother, James Adams, served in the RMLI and although he may not have ever lived with John Tacey, he was recorded in the household on the 1911 Census as a visitor while he was on furlough. James was killed in action on 20 September 1914 serving in HMS Pegasus. He was also commemorated on the Barton in Fabis memorial. (See James' record on this Roll of Honour.)
In 1901 he was a 'boy on a farm' but in 1911 a cattleman on a farm.
