He was the son of Robert Christopher and Lucy Bainbridge and the brother of Elsie, Margaret, Winifred Lucy and Harold Stanley Bainbridge. In 1911 they lived at 22 Mill Lane Kirkby in Ashfield.
He was a pit pony driver below ground.
