Private William Ernest Beardsley, 1/8th Battalion, Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) Regiment, died of wounds on 13th July 1916. He is buried in Bellacourt Military Cemetery, Riviere.
Born in Belgaum, India, he was the 19 year-old son of Col. Sgt. William Ernest Beardsley, of 34 Alfreton Road, Sutton-in-Ashfield. The father may well have enlisted the son, as he was working as a recruiting official at Mansfield Town Hall at the time of William Ernest Beardsley junior's enlistment there on 7th September 1914, He was 19 years old at that time too.
