Charles Edward Wilson was born in 1898 at Mansfield Woodhouse and was the son James a colliery surface worker and Mary Ellen Wilson née Holmes of 27 Portland Street, Mansfield Woodhouse. His father James was born in 1874 at Mansfield Woodhouse, his mother Mary Ellen Holmes was born in 1876 also at Mansfield Woodhouse, they were married in 1895 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have the following children, Charles Edward b1898, John George b1902 and Ivy b1904 all were born in Mansfield Woodhouse. In the 1911 census the family are living at 27 Portland Street, Mansfield Woodhouse and are shown as James Wilson 37 yrs a colliery surface worker, he is living with his wife Mary Ellen 35 yrs and their children Charles Edward 13 yrs a colliery surface worker, John George 9 yrs a scholar and Ivy 7 yrs of age.

Lance Corporal Charles Wilson enlisted at Mansfield he initially served with the service number 29872 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He died of wounds on 16th November 1916 and is buried in Dernacourt Communal Cemetery Extension.
