Thomas William Davis was born in 1891 the son of Edward a coal miner hewer and Annie Davis née Vail and the brother of Albert Edward and Maggie Davis. In 1911 they lived at 58 High Pavement Sutton in Ashfield Nottinghamshire. Edward was born in 1861 at Sutton in Ashfield, Annie Vail was born in 1870 at Cambridge, married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they went on to have 5 children. Thomas William married Lucy Hardstaff (born 4th December 1892) in 1912 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they lived at 21 Quarry Yard, Sutton in Ashfield and went on to have a son Arthur Davis born 27th August 1913. Commencing 31st March 19119 his widow Lucy was awarded a pension of 6 shillings and 8 pence a week.
He was a coal miner.

Lance Corporal Thomas William Davis enlisted at Mansfield , Formerly 19509 Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment) he was killed in action on 2nd September 1918 he is buried at Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France.
He was born J/A/S/1890 so may have been 27 when killed.
