1/8th Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private James William Powell enlisted 5th March 1917 at Mansfield and initially served with the service number 80424 in the Royal Engineers and later served with the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment. He was wounded on 4th October 1918 and returned to England and treated at Wrexham Military Hospital where he died of pneumonia on 21st October 1918. He was buried in Mansfield Woodhouse St Edmund Churchyard extension.
Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser; 24/10/1918: Private James William Powell aged 20 had been wounded in right arm but has died of pneumonia. A report of the military funeral was included in the following week's edition.
