Harvey Coupe enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters on 17th or 18th August 1914. After recruit training he was posted to the 1st battalion and entered theatre on 18 May 1915. After spending time at Etaples, he arrived at the battalion on 23rd, along with 4 officers and 109 other ranks. The war diary for the 12 July 1915 says little " 12th, A quiet day. Battalion relieved 2/Northants in No 2 Section trenches. An easy relief as everyone knew their places. 2nd Lieut. Cowgill joined from Havre. A very quiet night." Anthony Bagshaw's book has "Accidently killed when a bomb (grenade), which he was setting, exploded" Harvey was buried in the front line cemetery - Sailly-Sur-Lys Canadian Cemetery. John Morse
