Harvey Coupe was born in 1893 he was the son of Frank a coal carter and Annie Coupe née Hughes and the brother of Arthur, Harry, Harold and Alice Coupe. Frank was born in 1863, Annie Hughes was born in 1862 both were born in Warsop, they were married at St Peters Church, Bradford, they went on to have 5 children. In 1911 they lived at 78 Sherwood Street Mansfield Woodhouse Nottinghamshire. Frank 48 yrs is a coal carter he is living with his wife Annie 47 yrs and their 5 children including Harvey 17 yrs a colliery pony driver.

1st Bn Sherwood Foresters (Notts & Derby Regiment)
Private Harvey Coupe enlisted in the Sherwood Foresters on 17th or 18th August 1914. After recruit training he was posted to the 1st battalion and entered theatre on 18 May 1915. After spending time at Etaples, he arrived at the battalion on 23rd, along with 4 officers and 109 other ranks. He was accidentally killed on 12th July 1915 whilst setting a bomb. He is buried at Sailly-Sur-La-Lys Canadian Cemetery, France. Plot 3. Row A. Grave 7.
The war diary for the 12 July 1915 says little " 12th, A quiet day. Battalion relieved 2/Northants in No 2 Section trenches. An easy relief as everyone knew their places. 2nd Lieut. Cowgill joined from Havre. A very quiet night." Anthony Bagshaw's book has "Accidently killed when a bomb (grenade), which he was setting, exploded" Harvey was buried in the front line cemetery - Sailly-Sur-Lys Canadian Cemetery. John Morse
