Harry Sansom was born in 1898 he was the son of William John an iron foundry fitter and Hannah Sansom née Stanton of 10 Padley hill, Mansfield. William John was born in 1853 at Kensington, London, Hannah Stanton was born in 1858 at Mansfield, they were married in 1878 their marriage was recorded in the Derby registration district, they went on to have 13 children, sadly 1 died in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at 10 Padley Hill, Mansfield, William John 58 yrs is an iron foundry fitter, he is living with his wife Hannah 53 yrs and six of their children including Harry 13 yrs a scholar.

8th Bn York and Lancaster Regiment
Private Harry Sansom enlisted on 4th May 1915 at Mansfield, giving a false age of 19 years and 50 days (but probably only 17 years old as date of birth was 1st quarter of 1898.) he was posted to the 8th battalion York and Lancaster Regiment. He was killed in action on 7th June 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate memorial.
Brother, Sergeant William James Sansom died 06/10/1917 whilst serving with the Leicestershire Regiment.
