He was the son of John Joseph and Elizabeth Ann Pepper and the brother of Maggie, John, Gertie and Olive Pepeer of 55 Cedar Road and later 87 Foxhall Road (both Sherwood Rise Nottingham).
In 1911 he was a dental mechanic.

He served with 11th Bn. He is buried in La Neuville Communal Cemetery, Corbie (grave ref. A.72).
